Choosing sustainable skincare is not about chasing trends. It is about understanding what goes onto your skin each day and deciding what feels necessary and what does not.
Cosmetics are regulated differently from medicines. In most countries, cosmetic ingredients are not subject to mandatory pre-market approval in the same way pharmaceuticals are. Instead, manufacturers are responsible for ensuring safety within established regulatory frameworks.
This means some ingredients may be legally permitted while still being debated in scientific literature or avoided by some consumers based on personal preference.
At Corrynne’s Natural Skincare, we take a considered approach.
We formulate with ingredients that are as naturally derived as possible while still being stable, safe and effective.
How We Select Ingredients
Every ingredient in our range is chosen for two reasons: purpose and suitability.
We prioritise plant-based ingredients and avoid unnecessary synthetic additives wherever a thoughtful alternative exists. When a functional ingredient is required, such as an emulsifier in a moisturiser, we select the most appropriate option available and use it at conservative levels.
Our moisturisers are made with 100% pure plant oils, nut butters and essential oils as their primary base. In formulations that require preservation due to water content, we use carefully selected preservatives at less than 1%.
Most of our range is composed entirely of naturally derived ingredients. Moisturisers are the main category that include a small number of functional, man-made ingredients necessary for stability and safety.
For customers who prefer products made solely from plant-derived oils and butters, we offer alternatives such as facial oils and shea or coconut-based creams.
“The goal is not perfection. It is responsible formulation.”
Choosing to avoid these ingredients is often a personal decision rather than a response to a regulatory prohibition.
We choose to keep our formulations simple and plant-focused.
Ingredients Some Consumers Prefer to Avoid
Certain ingredients are common in conventional skincare and cosmetic products. While they are legally permitted, some consumers choose alternatives based on irritation potential, environmental concerns or evolving research discussions.
Gentle Cleansing & Skin Feel
Many customers tell us they prefer our soaps because they find certain conventional options can leave their skin feeling stripped and dry.
Our bar soaps are formulated with a higher proportion of plant oils, creating a gentler cleansing experience that supports skin comfort rather than leaving it feeling tight.
Essential oils are included at considered levels, often chosen for their traditionally associated calming or anti-inflammatory qualities in botanical skincare. Their role is to complement a formulation, not overpower it.
Fragrance & Essential Oils
Artificial fragrance can contain multiple undisclosed components listed simply as “fragrance” or “parfum.”
Where scent is present in our products, it comes from essential oils selected carefully and used at conservative levels. For customers who prefer to avoid scent entirely, we offer fragrance-free options.
While many essential oils are traditionally associated with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial or soothing properties, our products are formulated as cosmetic preparations and are not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent medical conditions.
Sensitive & Reactive Skin
Our approach is not to promise universal suitability, but to formulate with moderation and clarity.
Customers who describe their skin as reactive or sensitive prefer simpler formulations with fewer added components.
What Sustainable Skincare Means Here
Sustainable skincare extends beyond ingredients. It includes how products are made, packaged and produced over time.
We are gradually transitioning packaging from plastic to glass wherever practical. Our Dunsborough factory operates with 30 solar panels to reduce operational energy use. Incoming shipping materials are reused when fulfilling online orders, extending their lifespan.
These are practical decisions. Sustainability for us is not a single claim. It is an ongoing process.
